Dreams
Why We Have Dreams
Freud believed that our dreams are suppressed wishes and desires. He described dreams as having manifest and latent content. Manifest content describes the images and events of the dream. The latent content is what the dream actually means. It describes the actual wishes of the person.
Carl Jung believed that we have dreams in order to reflect on our lives. Dreams can also help us solve problems.
One current dream theory is activation-synthesis hypothesis.
This theory states that there is no purpose to dreaming; it is merely a byproduct of the brain.
Why Do We Have Difficulty Remembering Our Dreams
Freud believed that we do not remember our dreams because they are our repressed urges, so we wouldn’t want to remember them
Strumpell said that it is generally hard to remember anything after just waking up. Also, since we learn by understanding and repetition, it is difficult to remember a dream because it cannot be repeated, and most of the time, it is difficult to understand.
